Divergent: B

I finally saw "Divergent" on video tonight. I really enjoyed it!

It didn't have a very compelling preview and it got mixed reviews so I was expecting a tedious action film that pulled its punches. I was pleasantly surprised therefore to find an engaging, taut, and gritty movie that gets quite a bit more serious than I was expecting.

Admittedly the general setting is overly simplistic and young adult-ish: Faction Before Family, everyone fits in a faction, free-thinking "divergents" are pieces of shit, etc. But if you can deal with that then the movie as a whole is quite entertaining. Worth a look!
